Five Towns Heart Imaging is pleased to bring you exciting news about the significant upgrade to our cardiology services

We are now offering Cardiac PET/CT

with 64 Slice Scanning

(Positron Emission Tomography (PET) combined with Computed Tomography)

PET/CT is changing the way doctors are managing cardiac patients nationwide
It is an essential diagnostics tool that enhances patient treatment through:
-Early detection of disease
-Accurate assessment of myocardial perfusion, function and viability
-High sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease

What you need to know:

PET/CT is an expedient, non-invasive procedure that can accurately identify areas of abnormal myocardial perfusion. Doctors can now determine the functional capacity of the heart muscle as well as distinguish between viable and non-viable tissue, pinpointing exactly where a defect may be located. This enables your provider to determine the severity of heart disease as well as what follow-up therapy or intervention may be needed.

What is a PET/CT scan?

PET/CT is one of the most advanced medical imaging techniques of the modern world, capturing the synergy of Positron Emission Tomography with Computed Tomography. PET/CT combines CT’s precise anatomical detail with PET’s ability to detect biochemical abnormalities within the cell. This symbiosis allows for an earlier and more accurate detection of cardiac abnormalities than either PET or CT alone.

Why PET/CT?

Confidence and certainty are vital in distinguishing a normal from abnormal cardiovascular imaging study and avoidance of uncertain interpretations, which result in redundant testing and increased downstream healthcare costs. We believe that Cardiac PET/CT gives us that confidence and certainty. As a result of this enhancement, Five Towns Heart Imaging can now provide the preferred first line non-invasive test for patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease who meet the criteria for a stress imaging test. Cardiac PET/CT Imaging is increasingly used because of its incredibly high diagnostic accuracy, low radiation exposure to the patient, short image acquisition time, and strong prognostic power. PET/CT can also identify dead and/or injured tissue that's still alive and functioning. This major upgrade in cardiac imaging supports our ongoing efforts to deliver the highest quality, safest care possible to your patients.

Five Towns Heart Imaging is primarily a testing lab and works with physicians to provide integrated care as an extension of your own facility. We are a safe and secure extension of referring physician offices and a part of your integrated care structure.

Patients benefit from a cardiac PET/CTscan  for a variety of reasons, some of them are:

  • Breast implants
  • High-risk patients
  • Known or suspected CAD
  • Large body habitus, high BMI
  • Prior poor-quality stress imaging study
  • Requires pharmacologic stress imaging
  • Time-sensitive, emergent
  • Unable to exercise
  • Young patients with established CAD
